Isolated medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction for recurrent patellofemoral instability: Analysis of outcomes and risk factors
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Apr 11, 2021
Migliorini F, Oliva F, Maffulli GD, et al. - This study was carried out to examine the outcomes after isolated medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in patients with patellofemoral instability. Researchers evaluated the main electronic databases in November 2020. Researchers enrolled all articles reporting the results of primary isolated MPFL reconstruction for recurrent patellofemoral instability. They obtained data from a total of 1,777 knees. In the analysis, the mean age of the patients involved was 22.8 ± 3.4 years. For recurrent patellofemoral instability, isolated MPFL reconstruction provides reliable surgical outcomes. As per the findings, individuals with pathoanatomical predisposing factors reported worse surgical outcomes.
