Isolated acute terminal ileitis without preexisting inflammatory bowel disease rarely progresses to Crohn's disease

Digestive Diseases and Sciences Nov 23, 2017

Tse CS, et al. - This study was coordinated to clarify the long-term prognosis of patients with isolated acute terminal ileitis, its rate of progression to Crohn’s disease. Furthermore, the researchers aimed to explore the factors correlated with terminal ileitis development to Crohn’s disease. They found a rare development of isolated acute terminal ileitis to Crohn’s disease, which was discovered on diagnostic ileocolonoscopy. In cross-sectional imaging, the presence of stricturing/narrowing could predict eventual Crohn’s disease development.
