Isoflurane or propofol sedation in patients with targeted temperature management after cardiopulmonary resuscitation: A single center study
Journal of Critical Care Jan 25, 2018
Staudacher DL, et al. - Targeted temperature management improves outcomes in comatose patients after cardiac arrest. Short lasting sedatives might enable rapid awakening after targeted temperature management and therefore early prognostication and extubation. In this current study, researchers compared sedation with volatile isoflurane to intravenous propofol. They found that isoflurane sedation was feasible on during targeted temperature management but did not cause attenuation in time to spontaneous breathing, mechanical ventilation duration or ICU stay.
