Ischemic stroke in COVID-19 patients: Mechanisms, treatment and outcomes in a consecutive Swiss Stroke Registry analysis
European Journal of Neurology Dec 03, 2021
Strambo D, De Marchis GM, Bonati LH, et al. - Researchers retrieved data of patients with ischemic stroke (IS) and COVID-19 from the Swiss Stroke Registry (SSR) with the aim to describe frequency, clinical and radiological features, and 3-month outcomes in these patients.
During the study period, SSR had documentation of 2,341 IS patients, 36 of these (1.5%) had confirmed COVID-19 infection, of whom 33 within 1 month before or after stroke onset.
Observations revealed a relatively rare occurrence of concomitant COVID-19 in this nationwide analysis of consecutive ischemic strokes.
Multi-territory stroke was more frequent and cryptogenic stroke was less common, and their 3-month functional outcome tended to be worse among COVID+ patients.
