Is thrombocytosis always an indicator of autosplenectomy in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus?

Cansu DU, et al. - Herein, experts attempted to disclose the type and the frequency of thrombocytosis in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. Additionally, they intended to identify its causes. Findings illustrated a similar frequency of thrombocytosis during the course of SLE to that of the general cohort. Reactive thrombocytosis was discovered to be the most common cause. Rheumatologists were recommended to take into account the possibility of autosplenectomy/asplenia/hyposplenism in case of persistent thrombocytosis.
