Is there any association between asthma and Kawasaki disease? A systematic review and meta‐analysis
Pediatric Pulmonology May 20, 2021
Wang Z, et al. - In this systematic review and meta‐analysis, researchers intended to determine if there is an association between Kawasaki disease (KD) and asthma. PubMed and Embase databases were searched for cross‐sectional, case‐control and cohort studies that examined the connection between asthma and KD. Data reported that the crude odds ratios (ORs) between KD and asthma was 1.53. Analyses of adjusted ORs values showed that asthma onset before KD onset does not seem to increase KD prevalence, while people suffering from KD could increase the prevalence of developing asthma. The meta‐analysis suggested a possible link between preceding KD and asthma onset, but this finding should be interpreted with caution. Prospective cohort studies are required to determine whether there is a causal relationship between these two diseases.
