Is there a shared genetic basis and causal relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome and psychiatric disorders: Evidence from a comprehensive genetic analysis
Human Reproduction Jun 04, 2021
Jiang X, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining if polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and a range of psychiatric disorders have a shared genetic basis or causal relationship. The hitherto largest genome-wide association studies (GWAS) conducted in individuals with PCOS (Ncase = 9,322) or four common psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) were assessed for summary statistics. Performing genome-wide genetic correlation analysis and bidirectional Mendelian randomisation (MR) analysis, it was observed that there is no shared genetic basis or causal correlation of PCOS with psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
