Is surgical plume developing during routine LEEPs contaminated with high-risk HPV? A pilot series of experiments
Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics Dec 20, 2017
Neumann K, et al. - The present investigation was performed with the aim to evaluate whether surgical plume resulting from routine loop electrosurgical excision procedures (LEEP) of HSIL of the cervix uteri might be contaminated with the DNA of high-risk humane papillomavirus (HPV). For HSIL of the cervix uteri, surgical plume resulting from routine LEEPs had the risk of contamination with high-risk HPV. They recommend further investigations of infectiousness of surgical plume for evaluation of potential hazards to involved healthcare professionals.
