Is sclerostin level associated with cardiovascular diseases in hemodialysis patients?
Blood Purification May 17, 2018
Kundakci Gelir G, et al. - Researchers investigated the link between sclerostin, arterial stiffness, and cardiovascular events (CVE) in hemodialysis patients (HD). Significantly higher level of sclerostin was detected in patients than in controls. Univariable correlation analyses revealed a positive association of sclerostin with age, male gender, cardiovascular disease, statin use, BMI, and pulse wave velocity (PWV), as well as a negative association with alkaline phosphatase, parathormone (PTH), Kt/V, cinacalcet and vitamin D use. In multivariate regression analyses, a positive association of sclerostin with male gender and statin use but negative association with PTH was demonstrated. While a positive association between PWV and sclerostin was observed in univariate correlation analysis, no relation was seen between the two in multivariate regression analysis.
