Is rheumatoid arthritis a cardiovascular risk equivalent to diabetes?

Curtis JR, et al. - Experts compared the incidence of hospitalized acute myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and coronary revascularization according to whether patients presented diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), both or neither. Despite an elevated cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in RA, it was lower in magnitude compared to the CVD risk linked with diabetes. Hence, consideration of RA was not recommended as diabetes risk-equivalent in terms of hyperlipidemia management.
