Abdulrazzaq S, et al. - Researchers assessed whether revisional gastric bypass is effective as primary gastric bypass for weight loss and Improvement of Comorbidities. Between January 2011 and June 2015, a retrospective chart review was designed to enroll all patients who received primary gastric bypass (P-RYGB) and revisional gastric bypass (R-RYGB) at the center. This study recruited a total of 120 individuals who had undergone P-RYGB and 34 R-RYGB who completed 18 months follow-up. The efficacy of P-RYGB and R-RYGB were compared by evaluating four anthropometric, two glycemic, and four lipid parameters, as well as the control of T2DM, hypertension, dyslipidemia (remission, improvement, persistence, relapse, de novo), mortality and complications rates. Compared with P-RYGB, it was noted that R-RYGB resulted in inferior weight loss , although R-RYGB effectively addressed inadequate weight loss, weight regain, and recurrence of comorbidities after restrictive bariatric surgery. Neither technique differed in their clinical control of T2DM, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. The study found that both techniques showed comparable complication rates.
