Is regular knee radiograph reliable enough to assess the knee prosthesis position?
Journal of Arthroplasty May 26, 2018
Tammachote N, et al. - Researchers probed the accuracy of regular knee radiograph (RR) compared to long radiograph (LR) in assessing the coronal plane prosthesis position. They used the picture archiving and communications system (PACS) to produce digitized radiographs and perform the angle measurements. Very strong intra-observer reproducibility was provided by RR but only strong inter-observer reliability for FCA and tibial component angle (TCA) while LR provided very strong correlation for all angles. Results demonstrated minimal RR overestimation of femoral component angle (FCA) and TFAs in a valgus alignment, thereby, suggesting that RR could be an acceptable alternative to LR.
