Is parathyroidectomy safe and effective in patients with normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism?

Traini E, et al. - Clinical presentation and surgical outcome between normocalcemic and hypercalcemic forms were compared in a consecutive series of patients who underwent parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism. Parathyroidectomy in normocalcemic patients and in hypercalcemic patients was equally safe and effective. Parathyroidectomy could have a positive effect on the outcome of normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism patients in the presence of symptoms and/or target organ disease.
