Is nasal endoscopy of diagnostic value in chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps?
ENT Journal Oct 01, 2019
Cohen-Kerem R, Marshak T, Uri N, et al. - Given that nasal endoscopy is an inseparable part of the clinical assessment of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis, researchers conducted this prospective study to assess nasal endoscopy as a diagnostic tool in chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps. The sample consisted of 39 patients diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis, without polyps, whose ailment was managed conservatively with no surgical intervention. Patients with higher endoscopy scores were more likely to have severe symptoms. However, a strong correlation between nasal endoscopy findings and CT scan scores could not be demonstrated. Therefore, nasal endoscopy could be used as a beneficial objective tool for patients with chronic rhinosinusitis without polyps.
