Is intra-bladder pressure measurement a reliable indicator for raised intra-abdominal pressure?: A prospective comparative study
BMC Anesthesiology Jun 23, 2018
Ahmed Al-Abassi A, et al. - In patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia, researchers compared intra-bladder pressure (IBP) at different levels of intra-abdominal pressures (IAPs) and evaluated its reliability as an indirect method for IAP measurement. Findings highlighted the simplicity and minimally invasive nature of IBP measurement. Moreover, this method may allow a reliable estimation of IAP in patients placed in supine position. Less reliability of measurements for pressures higher than 12 mmHg was suggested. Its clinical application should alert the clinician to take safety measures to avoid abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS).
