Xu F, et al. - Researchers compared regimens combining irinotecan with platinum vs regimens combining etoposide with platinum as first-line chemotherapy for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). They performed a meta-analysis of nine relevant randomized controlled trials (2,451 patients) identified from the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Embase. According to findings, a better prolonged overall survival, progression-free survival and overall response rate can be achieved with a combination irinotecan and platinum regimen vs a combination etoposide and platinum regimen. Data also suggested that irinotecan combined with platinum could be beneficial for Asian patients.
