Iodine parameters in triple-bolus dual-energy CT correlate with perfusion CT biomarkers of angiogenesis in renal cell carcinoma
American Journal of Roentgenology Feb 22, 2020
Manoharan D, et al. - The study sought to ascertain the degree of the association between perfusion CT (PCT) parameters and iodine concentration metrics derived from triple-bolus dual-energy CT (DECT) and to match the radiation dose delivered. Between October 2015 and September 2017, this single-center prospective study was conducted. Researchers included a total of 23 consenting adults (15 men and eight women; mean [± SD] age, 56 ± 13 years [range, 25–78 years]) with renal cell carcinomas who underwent consecutive PCT and triple-bolus DECT examinations. Two independent reviewers examined blood flow, blood volume, and permeability, as measured by PCT, and iodine density and iodine ratio, as measured by triple-bolus DECT. For both groups, size-specific dose estimates were calculated. In renal cell carcinoma, quantitative iodine metrics derived from triple-bolus DECT revealed a significant relationship with CT parameters, with a significantly lower radiation dose.
