Iodine intake from supplements and diet during pregnancy and child cognitive and motor development: The INMA Mother and Child Cohort Study
Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health Jan 07, 2018
Murcia M, et al. - In this present study, the clinicians evaluated the association between iodine status during pregnancy and the cognitive and motor development of children at 4–5 years. An association was found between low maternal urinary iodine and lower cognitive scores in childhood, although only when corrected for creatinine. This finding added to the evidence that iodine deficiency could have potentially harmful effects on the neurodevelopment. Iodine supplementation did not seem to improve child’s neurodevelopment at 4–5 years.
