Involuntary and voluntary electroconvulsive therapy: A case-control study
Brain Stimulation Apr 12, 2018
Finnegan M, et al. - Researchers evaluated courses of involuntary electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) with matched voluntary ECT courses with regard to the clinical and demographic factors, treatment requirements, and outcomes. This study comprised of 48 involuntary and 96 control voluntary ECT courses. With regard to diagnosis, illness severity and illness characteristics, variation was noted in the groups at baseline. Nevertheless, treatment outcomes did not differ between the two groups after ECT or six-month readmission rates, indicating that research on capacitous, voluntary ECT patients was applicable to those having involuntary ECT.
