Investigation of hormone receptor expression and its prognostic value in endometrial stromal sarcoma
Virchows Archiv Jun 10, 2018
Park JY, et al. - Researchers assessed the immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of hormone receptors as well as examined the prognostic implication of these receptors in patients with endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS). They enrolled 51 patients with ESS whose paraffin blocks and pathologic slides which were obtained after hysterectomy were available. From patients’ medical records, clinicopathologic data were collected. Using tissue microarrays, IHC staining of hormone receptors was performed. They reported that no patient with androgen receptor (AR) positivity died of ESS. In endometrial stromal sarcoma, expression of hormone receptors was correlated with favorable survival outcome. Findings suggested that hormone receptors that exhibited strong expression deserve further evaluation to clear up their significance as a therapeutic target and predictor of treatment response.
