Intravenous vs oral acetaminophen as a component of multimodal analgesia after total hip arthroplasty: A randomized, blinded trial
Journal of Arthroplasty Apr 05, 2019
Westrich GH, et al. - Investigators researched over 154 individuals to estimate the outcome of intravenous (IV) vs oral acetaminophen as a component of multimodal analgesia following total hip arthroplasty (THA) in this double-blinded, randomized, controlled trial. They reported pain with physical therapy on postoperative day (POD) 1, opioid side effects (POD 1), and cumulative opioid use as the primary outcomes. They observed low pain scores, minimal opioid side effects, and limited opioid usage (corresponding to 6 doses of tramadol 100 mg over 3 days) subjects in both groups.
