Intrauterine fetal deaths related to antiphospholipid syndrome: A descriptive study of 65 women
Arthritis Research & Therapy Nov 11, 2018
Belhocine M, et al. - As one of the three obstetric manifestations of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is intrauterine fetal death (IUFD), researchers sought to report the first large series of patients with APS and IUFD. They analyzed 65 women with a median age at the index IUFD of 29 years (interquartile ranges 26–33); 38 (58%) of these were primigravidas. Most often, IUFD was identified as the inaugural sign of APS. In this cohort, IUFD, preeclampsia, and thromboses were common among the APS classification criteria, while the “3 consecutive early miscarriages” criterion was met only once. At least one live birth was achieved successfully in most of the women with treatment.
