Öztürk K, et al. - In this investigation involving 38 patients with intractable Meniere's disease, researchers identified the efficacy of an intratympanic (IT) injection of a mixture of gentamicin and dexamethasone vs intratympanic dexamethasone (ITD) in controlling vertigo and protecting hearing levels in patients with Meniere's disease who have persistent vertigo attacks despite medical treatment. There was better control of vertigo in the mixture group two years after IT treatment than in the ITD group. There has been no worsening in the ITD group hearing. In intractable cases of Meniere's disease, IT injection of a mixture of gentamicin and dexamethasone is more effective than ITD for vertigo control.
