Intraperitoneal cytology after laparoscopic radical hysterectomy with vaginal closure without the use of a manipulator for cervical cancer: A retrospective observational study
Cancer Management and Research Jul 30, 2019
Tanaka T, et al. - Based on the intraperitoneal cytology, researchers assessed the tumor spillage during laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (LRH) with vaginal closure without the use of a manipulator. A total of 24 Japanese cervical cancer patients had laparoscopic procedures at Osaka Medical College in Japan between January 2016 and January 2019. Peritoneal cytology was performed before and after hysterectomy to assess the leakage of cancer cells during surgery. According to findings, total LRH in the peritoneal cavity with vaginal closure did not increase the tumor spillage propensity. If laparoscopic surgery has a lower prognostic result than open surgery, other variables are likely to explain it. No cancer cells have been identified in any patient prior to or after hysterectomy.
