Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography and right ventricular failure after left ventricular assist device implantation
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Mar 21, 2018
Silverton NA, et al. - Whether intraoperative measures of right ventricular (RV) function using transesophageal echocardiography are related to subsequent RV failure after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, was investigated. Findings demonstrated no association of intraoperative measures of RV function such as tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion, tricuspid annular systolic velocity, and RV strain with RV failure after LVAD implantation. Decreased postbypass fractional area change was shown to be notably related to RV failure but displayed poor discrimination.
