Intraoperative surgical complications in transoral laser CO2 microsurgery of the larynx: An observational, prospective, single-center study
ENT Journal Nov 03, 2019
Chiesa-Estomba CM, et al. - In this observational, prospective, nonrandomized study of 128 individuals, experts ascertained the intraoperative surgical complications in transoral laser CO2 microsurgery transoral laser microsurgery (TOLMS) of the larynx. Of intraoperative complications, the total rate was 14.8%. According to anatomical location, the rate of complications was seven of 18 for supraglottic tumors and 11 of 107 for glottic tumors, and one of three for subglottic tumors. No variations in complications according to severity (minor vs major complication) were discovered. In comparison with traditional open surgery, former studies listed good oncologic outcomes and low complication rates with CO2 TOLMS. Nevertheless, it is significant to recognize the distinct intraoperative surgical, major and minor complications associated with CO2 TOLMS and address this to patients during the preoperative evaluation, particularly in those who require a supraglottic tumor resection.
