Intraoperative ketamine and magnesium therapy to control postoperative pain after abdominoplasty and/or liposuction: A clinical randomized trial
Journal of Pain Research Nov 18, 2020
Varas V, Bertinelli P, Carrasco P, et al. - Researchers compared the impacts of ketamine and ketamine associated with magnesium on opioid intake and pain scores in patients receiving abdominoplasty and/or liposuction vs standard treatment. This analysis involved 63 patients. A total of 21 patients were randomized in the Control group, 20 patients in the Ketamine group (Ket), and 22 patients in the Ketamine-magnesium group (KetMag). A lower morphine consumption by almost 50% during the first 12h was noted in the KetMag group vs the Control and the Ket groups. Based on the findings, it was concluded that co-administration of intraoperative ketamine plus magnesium and ketamine alone represent an effective as well as easy regime for decreasing pain and opioid use in the postoperative period.
