Intraoperative intravenous ibuprofen use is not associated with increased posttonsillectomy bleeding
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Feb 29, 2020
Patel NK, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to contrast bleeding rates in pediatric tonsillectomy individuals who received intraoperative intravenous ibuprofen vs those who did not, and to analyze factors correlated with a return to the emergency department (ED) for pain or dehydration. Charts were reviewed for all individuals 0-18 years of age who had a tonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy at a tertiary care children’s hospital from January 1, 2017, through May 21, 2018. One thousand eighty-five charts were analyzed. The observed bleeding rate in patients who received intraoperative IV ibuprofen vs those who did not receive this medication after pediatric tonsillectomy was not statistically different.
