Intraoperative completion angiogram may be superior to transesophageal echocardiogram for detection of pulmonary artery residual lesions in congenital heart surgery
Pediatric Cardiology Mar 15, 2018
Lamers L, et al. - The goal of this study was to analyze the diagnostic capabilities of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) vs completion angiography for the identification of residual post-operative pulmonary artery lesions in congenital heart surgery. It was determined that the completion angiography-related complications consisted of 3 transient arrhythmias with no increased incidence of acute kidney injury. Compared to TEE, the completion angiography was possibly more effective at detecting post-operative pulmonary artery lesions even in patients not manifesting clinical symptoms. An immediate surgical revision was facilitated by the documentation of residual lesions with completion angiography.
