Intraoperative administration of dexmedetomidine reduced the postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort and pain in patients undergoing lumbar microdiscectomy

Journal of Anesthesia Nov 07, 2017

Kwon Y, et al. - This study was designed to assess the incidence and severity of postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) subsequent to intraoperative use of dexmedetomidine (DEX) during non-urologic surgery. Researchers also investigated the correlation between the levels of CRBD and postoperative pain sensation. Based on the findings, it was concluded that DEX administration during the intraoperative period is a safe and effective practice for the prevention of CRBD following lumbar microdiscectomy and can reduce postoperative pain.
