Intramural coronary pattern in patients with transposition: Incidence and impact on follow-up
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Feb 20, 2020
Moll M, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the frequency of intramural coronary patterns in patients with transposition and examined its impact on overall mortality after an arterial switch operation. Further, all coronary arrangements linked with intramural patterns in the present cohort were conferred and the surgical techniques used to manage them successfully were delineated. They assessed 806 patients; of these, 271 patients exhibited coronary anomalies (33.62%), and 28 patients had an intramural pattern (3.47%), which was frequently linked with other complex coronary anomalies. Patients with intramural coronary artery patterns showed significantly higher overall survival compared with those with other coronary variants (21.34% vs 8.74%). In this cohort, they identified intramural patterns linked with transposition as surgically challenging and is associated with increased overall mortality.
