Intradural spinal tumors - A review of post-operative outcomes comparing intramedullary and extramedullary tumors from a single institution's experience
World Neurosurgery Oct 05, 2017
Ng ZX, et al. - In this retrospective, cases of intradural spinal tumors that underwent surgery in authors' institution were assessed for their clinical outcomes. In this work, comparing extramedullary vs. intramedullary tumors, improvement in neurologic status post surgery was evident in both groups. In majority of patients undergoing intradural spinal tumor excision, good outcomes were achieved, with 92% of patients reporting improved neurological outcomes post surgery. Patients of age less than 65 and complete resection of tumor seemed related with higher odds of improved clinical outcomes but the results were not statistically relevant. The use of spinal nerve monitoring seemed not beneficial regarding neurological outcomes.
