Intracapsular hemorrhage rates in non-fixated nylon sheet orbital implants for orbital fracture management
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Apr 14, 2019
Lee HBH, et al. - From January 2013 to December 2016, researchers reviewed 227 individuals to estimate the incidence of intracapsular hemorrhage in the management of orbital fracture with non-fixated nylon sheet implants. No implants were fixated whereas the average implant thickness was 0.38 mm. They removed 4 total implants (1.8%) as a result of complications; one each secondary to ongoing postoperative diplopia exploration, immediate postoperative orbital hemorrhage, cystic mass anterior to the implant, and pain. No cases of intracapsular hemorrhage nor infection were reported over 4 years suggesting a much lower complication rate as compared to reported earlier.
