Intra-operative amiodarone-releasing hydrogel to prevent post lung transplant atrial fibrillation: A pilot clinical trial
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation Apr 03, 2020
Whited WM, et al. - Researchers performed this prospective pilot study to determine whether topical amiodarone applied to the atria and pulmonary veins at the time of lung transplantation (LTx) would afford an effective option to reduce postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF). A total of 20 patients receiving LTx at a single institution were enrolled. This study also included 40 historical controls for comparison. According to the findings, the observed rates of POAF seemed to be reduced by the intra-operative application of Amiodarone-containing hydrogel to the pulmonary vein anastomoses and atria vs historical controls from the same institution.
