Intra-articular tranexamic acid mitigate blood loss and morphine use after total knee arthroplasty: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Arthroplasty Jan 29, 2019
Laoruengthana A, et al. - A sum of 228 subjects were randomized into No tranexamic acid (TXA) use (No-TXA), intra-articular TXA use (IA-TXA) and intravenous TXA (10mg/Kg) use (IV-TXA) to compare the perioperative blood loss (PBL), drain output (DO), average number of units of blood transfused (ANUBT), visual analog scales (VAS) for pain, amount of morphine consumption, and knee flexion angle across the TXA administration routes in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Investigators observed a significant reduction in PBL and ANUBT with administration of both IA and IV-TXA. They preferred IA-TXA could significantly alleviate VAS and morphine use after TKA.
