Intra-abdominal sepsis after ileocolic resection in Crohn’s disease: The role of combination immunosuppression
Diseases of the Colon and Rectum Nov 20, 2018
McKenna NP, et al. - Researchers investigated the risk factors for intra-abdominal sepsis after ileocolic resection in Crohn’s Disease. Specifically, they sought the role of combination immunosuppression and repeat intestinal resection. Outcomes of this retrospective review of patient records from 2007 to 2017 suggested that the intra-abdominal sepsis develops in association with both combination immunosuppression and previous intestinal resection. These results thereby emphasize considering the effects of combination immunosuppression and a history of previous intestinal resection, in addition to other risk factors, when deciding which patients warrant temporary intestinal diversion.
