Intra‐operative methadone effect on quality of recovery compared with morphine following laparoscopic gastroplasty: A randomised controlled trial
Anaesthesia Jul 31, 2020
Pontes JPJ, Braz FR, Módolo NSP, et al. - Researchers compared the effect of intra‐operative intravenous methadone vs morphine after laparoscopic gastroplasty on quality of postoperative recovery. They performed random allocation of 137 adult patients with a BMI > 35 kg.m−2 who underwent bariatric surgery to receive either intra‐operative methadone (n = 69) or morphine (n = 68). Per outcomes, patients who underwent laparoscopic gastroplasty had improved quality of recovery in correlation with receiving intra‐operative intravenous methadone vs intra‐operative morphine. In addition, methadone led to reduction in postoperative pain, postoperative opioid consumption and the incidence of opioid‐related adverse events.
