Intestinal microbiota in infants at high-risk for allergy: Effects of prebiotics and role in eczema development

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Sep 07, 2017

Wopereis H, et al. – Researchers examined the effects of the interventions and breastfeeding on fecal microbiota, also, they planned to identify microbial patterns associated with the onset of eczema. In this study, a pHF with specific prebiotics modulated the gut microbiota closer to that of breastfed infants. A potential association was noticed between the microbial activity and onset of eczema. It seemed to reflect a suboptimal implementation of gut microbiota at specific developmental stages in infants at high–risk for allergy.
