Interventional treatment of arterial injury during blind central venous catheterization in the upper thorax: Experience from two centres
Clinical Radiology Nov 17, 2019
Park S, Jeong B, Shin JH, et al. - Eighteen consecutive individuals who underwent interventional treatment for the arterial injuries that transpired during central venous catheterization without any imaging guidance between November 2007 and December 2018 were involved in order to assess the safety and clinical efficiency of interventional treatment for arterial injury during blind, central venous catheterization in the upper thorax at two tertiary medical centres. The subclavian artery/branches (n = 12), axillary artery/branches (n = 2), and common carotid artery (n = 4) were arterial injury sites. It was concluded that for inadvertent arterial injury associated with blind, central venous access catheterization in the upper thorax, interventional treatment acts as a safe and efficacious treatment modality.
