Interstitial fibrosis scored on whole-slide digital imaging of kidney biopsies is a predictor of outcome in proteinuric glomerulopathies
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Feb 07, 2018
Mariani LH, et al. - It is already known that progression of renal disease is determined by interstitial fibrosis (IF), tubular atrophy (TA) and interstitial inflammation (II). Standardized quantification of these features could add value to current classification of glomerulopathies. In this current investigation, it was shown that the degree of IF was related to the risk of estimated glomerular filtration rate decline across different types of proteinuric glomerulopathy. Furthermore, it also correlated with inflammatory and fibrotic gene expression and may have predictive value in evaluating the risk of progression.
