Interscalene brachial plexus block for surgical repair of clavicle fracture: A matched case-controlled study
BMC Anesthesiology Apr 24, 2020
Olofsson M, Taffe P, Kirkham KR, et al. - A matched case-controlled study was designed to evaluate interscalene brachial plexus block for surgical repair of clavicle fracture. Researchers prospectively enrolled a total of 50 consecutive patients for surgical fixation of middle/lateral clavicle fracture under general anaesthesia with interscalene brachial plexus block (ISB) in order to assess the analgesic efficiency of an interscalene brachial plexus block for surgical repair of clavicle fracture. This study was correlated with a historical control of 76 retrospective patients without regional block. After surgical fixation of middle and lateral clavicle fracture, ISB serves effective analgesia. These outcomes should assist physicians in developing an analgesic strategy for this type of surgery. Future study is required to distinguish the optimal regional method for medial third clavicle fractures and the clinically relevant contributions of the cervical and brachial plexus.
