Interrelations between hypertension and electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy and their associations with cardiovascular mortality
American Journal of Cardiology Oct 24, 2018
Cao X, et al. - In 6,105 individuals free of cardiovascular disease (CVD) who were followed for 14.0 years (median), researchers analyzed the interrelationship between hypertension, electrocardiogram (ECG)-left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), and CVD mortality. They found that the link between hypertension and ECG-LVH follows a similar pattern to those previously reported for imaging-LVH, supporting the current practice of using ECG for assessment of LVH in contemporary hypertension clinical trials. LVH was identified as only one of many factors by which hypertension exerted its influence on CVD; this was suggested by the inability of ECG-LVH to explain the link between hypertension and CVD mortality.
