Interpregnancy change in body mass index and infant outcomes in Texas: A population-based study

BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Apr 10, 2019

Benjamin RH, et al. - Researchers studied the interpregnancy change in body mass index (IPC-BMI) to enhance their understanding regarding the association between body mass index (BMI) and large for gestational age (LGA), small for gestational age (SGA), and preterm birth (PTB). They estimate IPC-BMI using birth certificate data from 2481 linked sibling pairs (Texas, 2005–2012) and evaluated its association with LGA, SGA, and PTB in the younger sibling of the pair. Outcomes suggest a correlation of interpregnancy BMI decreases with LGA, SGA, and PTB. However, taken as a whole, insufficient evidence from literature was gained establishing causal links between maternal BMI and these outcomes.
