Interplay of physical activity and genetic variants of the endothelial lipase on cardiovascular disease risk factors
Pediatric Research Apr 20, 2021
Salazar-Tortosa DF, Pascual-Gamarra JM, Labayen I, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the link of endothelial lipase gene (LIPG) polymorphisms with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors among adolescents as well as their interaction with physical activity. Among 1,057 European adolescents (12–18 years old) registered in the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence Study, genotyping of six polymorphisms of LIPG was performed. Lower levels of several CVD risk factors associated with lipid profile were observed in relation to major C allele of rs2000813, the minor T allele of rs2276269 and the minor G allele of rs9951026. Findings showed a significant link of LIPG polymorphisms with CVD risk factors among European adolescents. A better cardiovascular profile in relation to alleles of these polymorphisms was revealed in physically active adolescents only. It was indicated that high physical activity may bring about a decrease in CVD occurrence, modulating its genetic risk.
