Internalizing and externalizing symptoms and suicidal behavior in young people: A systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal studies
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Apr 19, 2019
Soto-Sanz V, et al. - Among adolescents and young adults, researchers examined if internalizing and externalizing symptoms influence the risk for suicidal behavior and suicide. For a systematic review, 41 studies were included, with participants aged 12-26 years, and for meta-analysis, they included 24 articles. Findings suggest the predictive value of reported internalizing and externalizing symptoms for suicide behavior in young people. This suggests the significance of assessing and managing these symptoms in young populations for preventing suicidality in this group.
