Internal jugular vein variability predicts fluid responsiveness in cardiac surgical patients with mechanical ventilation

Ma GG, et al. - In cardiac surgical patients on mechanical ventilation, the efficacy of using internal jugular vein variability (IJVV) as an index of fluid responsiveness was assessed. For such a patient population, ultrasound-derived IJVV afforded an accurate, easily acquired noninvasive parameter of fluid responsiveness, with a performance similar to that of inferior vena cava variability (IVCV).
