Internal fixation vs arthroplasty for the treatment of nondisplaced femoral neck fractures in the elderly: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Dec 26, 2019
John TR, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, a comprehensive search of the MEDLINE, Embase, and central databases was carried through June 25, 2019, in order to contrast the results of old individuals with nondisplaced and minimally displaced femoral neck fractures treated with internal fixation vs arthroplasty. Studies were involved if the sample population was 60 years of age or more, had nondisplaced or minimally displaced femoral neck fractures, and if the study contrasted internal fixation vs arthroplasty. Among 1,597 recognized articles, four manuscripts fitted the eligibility standards with a total of 579 individuals. Overall, it was found that contrasted with internal fixation, in the old individuals with nondisplaced and minimally displaced femoral neck fractures, treatment with hemiarthroplasty might decrease the relative risk of reoperation by 70%.
