Intermediate procedural and health status outcomes and the clinical care pathways after chronic total occlusion angioplasty: A report from the OPEN‐CTO (outcomes, patient health status, and efficiency in chronic total occlusion hybrid procedures) study
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Oct 30, 2020
Sapontis J, Hirai T, Patterson C, et al. - Since the comprehensive care pathways involved in chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention (CTO PCI) have not been defined in previous reports, therefore, researchers evaluated procedural characteristics, complication rates, as well as patient reported health status results through 12 months among 1,000 consecutive patients receiving CTO PCI using hybrid approach. In real‐world, CTO‐PCI frequently needed treatment of second CTO, non‐CTO PCI or repeat procedures to treat initially unsuccessful lesions. Successful CTO PCI vs unsuccessful CTO PCI was shown to be related to numerically lower major adverse cardiac and cerebral event at 1 year and persistent symptomatic improvement. A further inquiry is needed to understand the link between the care pathways after CTO PCI and health status benefit.
