Interleukin 38 serum level is increased in patients with vitiligo, correlated with disease severity, and associated with signs of disease activity
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Nov 19, 2021
Marie RESM, Adel AZM, El- Fadeal NMA, et al. - Vitiligo patients exhibited higher serum levels of interleukin (IL)-38 than healthy controls (Hcs). IL-38 serum level was found to be linked with vitiligo severity and signs of activity.
A total of 21 patients with vitiligo and 21 Hcs were included.
A significantly higher serum level of IL-38 was detected in vitiligo patients vs Hcs (p < 0.001).
In patients with signs of vitiligo activity, this level was significantly higher.
In addition, this level showed positive correlation with Vitiligo Extent Score (p < 0.001), and negative correlations with age of patients (p = 0.001) and the age of disease onset (p = 0.022).
