Interleukin 12 and interleukin 23 play key pathogenic roles in inflammatory and proliferative pathways in giant cell arteritis
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Aug 16, 2018
Conway R, et al. - In giant cell arteritis (GCA) pathogenesis, experts evaluated the role of interleukin 12 (IL-12) and interleukin 23 (IL-23). As per data, in stimulating inflammatory and proliferative pathways relevant to GCA pathogenesis IL-12 and IL-23 play central and distinct roles. Gene expression of IL-8 and CCL-20 and protein expression of IL-6 and IL-8 were seen to significantly increase with IL-23 in ex vivo temporal artery (TA) explants. The quantity of myofibroblast outgrowths from temporal artery biopsies (TABs) was increased by IL-12 and IL-23 stimulation.
